Our Story — The Journey to The Grand 1891
Every historic building has a story. Some are quietly forgotten, others patiently wait to be rediscovered. The story of The Grand 1891 is one of purpose, preservation, and a vision that grew far beyond its original plan.

A Building with Deep Roots
Long before it became The Grand 1891, the building at 210 South Main Street stood as a cornerstone of downtown Anderson’s early growth. Historical records trace its origins to 1884, when the site supported essential industry and daily life—including a water-supply well, a marble-cutting operation, and residential quarters.
By the late 19th century, the property had evolved into a vibrant mixed-use space, reflecting the energy and ambition of a growing town. By 1891, the structure assumed the same configuration that stands today, a rare continuity that speaks to the craftsmanship and permanence of its construction.
From its earliest days, the building was also a place of gathering and entertainment. Early uses included both a saloon and a theater, where stories were shared, performances unfolded, and the social life of the community took shape. Over the decades, the space continued to welcome merchants, craftsmen, professionals, and social gatherings—each generation leaving behind subtle traces of purpose and story.
It was this enduring character—shaped by time yet never diminished—that made the building worthy of preservation. Beneath years of wear, its elegance remained, waiting patiently to be revealed once again.

A Journey That Began with Service
My journey to this building began not as a business venture, but as an act of service.
I was asked to walk alongside Joy Comes, a local nonprofit I have supported since its inception, as we searched for space to support its growing mission. During that process, we became aware of this long-overlooked building. At the time, the idea of acquiring it felt unrealistic—especially for a nonprofit.
Still, a mother-and-daughter real estate team, Crystal and Caitlyn, urged us to step inside.
The main floor told a story of neglect, far removed from the elegance it once held. But when we climbed to the second floor, everything changed. Though it required significant restoration, the character of the space was unmistakable. Its proportions, craftsmanship, and quiet beauty revealed something rare. In that moment, an unexpected thought took hold: this could be the future home of my IT company.
There was no dramatic turning point—only a steady unfolding. Conversations aligned. Doors opened. Timing fell into place. In quiet and undeniable ways, God was guiding each step, leading Joy Comes to this address and, in turn, leading this building to me. What felt circumstantial in the moment became unmistakably purposeful in hindsight.
As restoration began, it became clear this space was meant to serve more than one mission. Today, The Grand 1891 stands as both a place of celebration and a place of support. The building proudly provides office space for Joy Comes, and a significant portion of the proceeds from The Grand directly supports the ministry’s work.
This revival is not simply the restoration of brick and wood.
It is a reflection of faith, obedience, and trust in a path revealed—one step at a time.
After extensive negotiation, I purchased the building.
From Practical Renovation to Something Grand
Renovation began on the main floor with a simple, practical goal: creating a consignment or general store to help financially support the Joy Comes ministry. The renovation was meant to be budget-friendly.
But as the space began to take shape, the building revealed more of itself.
Original coffered ceilings were uncovered. Historic millwork demanded restoration rather than replacement. Each discovery raised the bar. What began as a modest renovation evolved into a careful preservation of history. It became clear that this space deserved to be treated as something truly special.
The result was unexpected—even to those closest to the project.
The space became shockingly beautiful.
Elegant. Timeless.
Unmistakably grand.
The Grand 1891 Today
Today, The Grand 1891 stands as a restored landmark—honoring more than a century of history while serving a renewed purpose. It is a refined, versatile event space available to anyone, hosting weddings, celebrations, corporate gatherings, and community events.
True to its origins, service remains at the heart of the building. A large portion of the profits from The Grand 1891 directly support the Joy Comes ministry, and the building proudly provides office space for Joy Comes, allowing the organization to continue its mission from within these historic walls.
This is more than a renovation.
It is a revival.
The Grand 1891 exists because history was worth preserving—and because sometimes, a building waits patiently for someone to listen to what it wants to become.
